DON'T FALL INTO THE AGENCY TRAP
I will teach you the secrets that I used to help a local business generate over $100 million in sales and dominate their competitors.
It was 2008 and I had the genius idea to get into real estate. I had no money, no experience, no mentor and, apparently, no brain either.
You probably know what happened next...I lost everything! I was a loser sleeping on my sister's couch (Thanks, Amy!)
Fortunately, Internet marketing was becoming a "thing" and I was lucky enough to get a job at one of the first real internet marketing companies around.

Unlike real estate, I loved internet marketing and I was great at it. I quickly learned about website design, SEO, PPC and started my own business selling ukuleles online.
You learn really fast when you're spending your own money trying to figure things out. That's true in most areas of life.
And that's when my adventure truly began.

I was hired as the marketing director (I was the ONLY person in the marketing department) at one of the largest advertising law firms in the state of Utah. They were the #1 player in the personal injury space and they had spent millions on traditional advertising like TV, phonebooks, billboards, radio and sports.
But the writing was on the wall and the internet could no longer be ignored. People were starting to watch Netflix instead of TV, phonebook usage was declining every single year and if they didn't do something fast their position in the market was going to change.
It really is hard to teach old dogs new tricks. Especially if those old tricks used to work REALLY well. 3TV, radio, phonebooks, sports, etc. was how they gained market dominance. So having some young kid come in and try to change things was, understandably, hard to deal with. I don't fault them for that.
When I got there there was no tracking set up in the internet program (thanks a lot agencies) but I estimated that leads from the internet were less than 5% overall and getting about 5% of the advertising budget. When I left, the internet was responsible for 94% of the trackable leads while only getting about 10% of the overall budget.
Within a few years the internet was responsible for almost all of leads that came into the firm which resulted in well over $15 million per year in revenue.
We were spending about $50K per month on the internet and were dominating in SEO, PPC, Social Media, etc. Our tracking was out of this world and our saturation of the online market was undeniable.
Nobody could touch us with a 10' pole. We had too much of a head start because all of the other firms were goofing around with agencies trying to make it work when we were doing ACTUAL internet marketing with the programs I was implementing.
The real bonus for me about working at the law firm was that, while I was crushing it for them in digital, they were teaching me how to do traditional advertising.
TV, radio, billboards, sports, buses, and, yes, even the phonebook.Traditional advertising can be a very important part of a marketing mix, but it is almost completely dismissed by internet marketers and marketing agencies in general.
I got a very exclusive education in marketing from my time at the law firm because, not only did I get to learn these strategies, it was backed by over $30 million in ad spend. It's not book learning, but experience that matters.

Eventually my Amazon business exploded and it cost too much money to stay at that job so I transitioned into full-time business ownership and have never looked back.
I love being an entrepreneur and, even more, I love helping people who come to me with desperate problems about being afraid their business is going to die or that they just aren't getting enough money from their business because they just don't know how to do marketing - nor do they have time to become serious marketers.
Usually the solutions they need are simple but they just don't know what they don't know.
